Firefighters battled a four-alarm fire Saturday afternoon in an office tower at 1 Congress St. , according to the Boston Fire Department.

Brian Alkins, a spokesperson for the Boston Fire Department, said the fire, which started about noon, was put out around 2:30 p.m. and four detail companies were on scene to continue checking for hotspots.

Flames traveled through the “ductwork and the shafts on multiple floors throughout the building,” said Alkins.

According to a tweet from the fire department at 1:18 p.m., firefighters were opening up walls to reach the fire and using saws to cut open the ductwork.

Three firefighters were transported to a local hospital for heat-related issues, according to a tweet by the fire department. Boston Emergency Medical Services said the firefighters were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The building, which is called Bulfinch Place, has been under construction and workers were inside when the fire broke out, but no other injuries have been reported, according to Alkins.

Firefighters used thousands of feet of hose to get water into the building to fight the fire, according to a tweet from the fire department.

Firefighters were being rotated to keep them from overheating in the hot weather, according to the department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Alkins said.

While the state of the building hasn’t been assessed yet, he said the fire caused “lots of damage throughout multiple floors” of the building.

The building has been plagued by other incidents in recent months.

On June 24, firefighters responded to 1 Congress St. after a fire broke out on the 20th floor of the 43-story high-rise, triggering a five-alarm response by Boston firefighters and injuring two construction workers, officials said.

In March, a Boston construction worker at 1 Congress St. was killed after a partial collapse of the Government Center parking garage sent him plummeting several stories.
