BROCKTON — A Brockton man has been found dead in his apartment after a staffer discovered his body on Tuesday morning in an incident not believed to be a random act of violence, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.

The D.A.'s office said Brockton police are investigating the death of 55-year-old Jose Romero after he was found unresponsive at his 1380 Main Street apartment early yesterday.

Police received a 911 call from a Campello High Rise apartments employee at 7:53 a.m. Tuesday stating that one of the building's tenants had been discovered unresponsive.

Romero was pronounced dead at the scene after police, fire, and emergency medical services arrived.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident "does not appear to be a random act of violence," the D.A.'s office stated in a release on Tuesday evening.

No further details about the man's injuries were disclosed.

Romero's body has been taken to the Massachusetts Chief Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause and manner of his death, according to the D.A.'s office.

The investigation by Brockton and state police is active and ongoing.
